Are you a single mother, who is also a visual artist? If so, the Artist Grant from www.artistgrant.org may be a great opportunity for you. It can be tough as an artist to get paying gigs, especially if you are a freelancer or new to the scene, and many times it seems as though people expect artists to work for free. This grant can be especially helpful in those situations as the money can be used to get yourself into shows, build a website, or perhaps finish your latest project. However, it is only for the visual artist, so think painter, crafter, sculptor, etc. If this is you, you can apply at https://artistgrant.org/apply/ and can read on to find out more.
About the Artist Grant
The Artist Grant is given as a once-only, $500 grant, meaning you do not pay it back. The nice thing is that the grants are provided on a quarterly basis for a total of $2,000 awarded each year. The cut-off dates for the quarterly applications are:
- January 15
- April 15
- July 15
- October 15
If you miss one deadline, the next one isn’t too far off!
This grant does come with an application fee, like many private grants, of $25 per application. The proceeds help to deflect some of the costs associated with website and administration fees so that they can continue to fund the quarterly grant.

How to Apply for the Artist Grant
The process of applying for the Artist Grant is very simple compared to other grants. There is no proposal and no required description of where and what the funds will be used for. If you win, the money is yours and you can do with it what you wish. All you have to do to apply is send an email to submit@artistgrant.org containing the following:
- A link to your website/gallery
- Or if you do not have a website, 3-5 digital copies of your work (photos, etc.), along with a resume, CV, or a bio on yourself.
Of course, there is also the $25 application fee mentioned earlier, but besides that, you are done! Because of the small staff size of the Artist Grant, confirmation of each submission is not possible. You will, however, be notified of the quarterly results once a winner has been chosen.
About ArtistGrant.org
ArtistGrant.org is a relatively new organization, founded just last year in 2017. This new organization has one simple purpose, to fund and support visual artists. They noticed that, often, in today’s society, artists do not receive adequate payment for their efforts, and sometimes, are expected to work for free. The team behind Artist Grant believes that all artists deserve fair compensation, and from that belief, spawned www.artistgrant.org. Their competitive grant is funded by a small group of individual artists, all from different backgrounds, who use their resources to fulfill the mission of Artist Grant.
While the Artist Grant is a helpful program with a great cause, it is fairly new. On the upside, you could receive $500 in grant money to do with as you see fit and the application process is easy. While, on the downside, there is the $25 application fee, you have to be a visual artist to qualify, and there is the lack of a submission confirmation which could leave you wondering. However, if you have an extra $25 you can spare, it may pay you back 20-fold. Plus, Artist Grant showcases the winner’s art on their website for future applicants to see. Head on over to their website to learn more about the organization, see past winners, and understand more about the grant program for yourself.
