Everyone who has a house needs to have a refrigerator. We all need somewhere that that we can store our food so that it doesn’t spoil as quickly. Buying a new fridge, however, will cost you at least $500. Many of them cost well over $1,000 new, which is something that many people simply cannot afford. The question many people have is how can a single mother get a free fridge? The good news is that there are some ways!

There are a few ways that a single mother can get a free fridge. Knowing some of these ways can go a long way toward helping people be able to get what they need, especially when they are financially challenged. Single mothers often have less money, because they only have one income coming in. If they have to purchase a new fridge, it can be out of reach, or take money from other necessities that they need.

Reach out to the programs below to see if you can get a free fridge from them. They should be able to either provide you with one, or provide you with a referral to a local place that can help ensure you get a free fridge. There are numerous ways to get one, it just comes down to knowing what to do and who to reach out to about it. Many people are willing to help, but they need to know you are in need. Don’t be shy about posting something on your social media page to let people know you are a single mother in need of a free fridge. You may be surprised at how quickly people pull together to find you one.

Programs to Reach Out to For a Free Fridge

Curb Alerts – There are many curb alerts that are posted online, and some of them are for free refrigerators. They are usually used, but most are in good working order. The people who post the information about them usually state whether or not they work or if there is something specific wrong with them. This is a great way to get a free used fridge. You can find curb alerts listed in groups on Facebook, in the Marketplace, and on Craigslist. It may take a week or so to find one posted, but they are routinely posted on these sites for free. You will have to have transportation to go pick it up in most cases.

Appliance Stores – Call a local appliance store and tell them your situation. Ask if they have any used fridges that were given to them that you could have. Often times, when people purchase new appliances they have their old ones hauled away when the new ones are delivered. You can ask the store where the used ones are hauled off to and if you would be able to have one. They may be able to help you obtain a used one that they pick up after a delivery of a new one.

How to Transport a Free Fridge

Those who have found a free fridge that they can get may not have the transportation to go pick it up. After all, a fridge is not going to fit into most cars that people have. You will need to have a truck or large SUV in order to fit a fridge into it and transport it home. You could also transport it in a trailer that you pull with a vehicle.

If you do not have a vehicle that can transport the free fridge you still have a few options to consider. First, ask the person getting rid of it if they are able to deliver it, even if you have to pay them a small fee for doing so. Another option is to post online and see if anyone can help you get it relocated. Some people may do it for free, while others may want to charge a small fee for the service. If you can’t find someone to do the work, you can always go rent a small pickup truck from a place like Lowe’s or Home Depot. Those trucks can be rented for one hour, which is only around $25. You can go pick up the fridge, take it to your house, and then return the truck.
