Help for Single Moms with School Fees

While it should be free to send kids to public schools, it’s not exactly true. Many schools ask for parents to pay for school fees, and those can add up quickly. For those who do not have the funds to pay for school fees, it can be a challenge and stress to try and come up with the funds. The good news is that there are ways to get help for single moms with school fees.

The school fees that people are often asked to pay for cover a variety of things. Some of the school fees that single moms are asked to pay include classroom supply fees, school lunch fees, field trip fees, parking fees, and much more. As kids get to high school, they have fees just for being in the grade that they are in. There are also fees for year books, pictures, class shirts, and more.

For some single moms it may seem like the fees they are asked to pay are never ending. There are a lot of fees and it can be a challenge for those who are single parents or who have a low income. Be sure to consider the options below when it comes to finding help for single moms with school fees. These options will provide you with the help you need.

Options for Single Moms with School Fees

Schools – The first place to get help to pay for school fees is to contact the child’s school. Speak with the school counselor to let them know that you are having difficulty paying for school fees for your children. They have resources they can turn to that can help get the school fees paid for. They have places and programs they can refer you to, and they may be able to get some of the fees waived for you. Your child’s school counselor is the best first place to reach out to when it comes to having difficulty paying for school supplies or school fees.

Churches – The churches in your area are another great resource to help pay for school fees. They have programs to help with things in the community where they are located. They will help you pay for school fees and obtain school supplies. Many churches hold school supply drives in the summer and then give away all the supplies to those in need right before school starts each year. They are a good resource for getting assistance with paying for necessary school fees.

Women’s Groups – Most cities have ladies or women’s groups in them. These are groups where women in the community come together to try to do good for their city. They look for people and projects to help, so they like a good cause. Contact them to ask if they could help with some of your school fees. You may be surprised to learn that they are happy to help. Many of the women who are part of the group will either be happy to donate the money themselves or do a fundraiser to raise the money to help with paying for school fees for single moms.

School District – Each school belongs to a school district, which is usually by county. Contact your school district to ask if they can provide help for single moms with school fees. They should have programs in place to help with paying for school fees, or they should be able to refer you to local programs that can help do so. They also have the authority to waive the fees, so that you will not have to pay them in the first place. The school board is a powerful place to contact when it comes to needing help with anything to do with your child being in school. You can contact all members on your school board, or reach out to the one that represents the school your child goes to.

Fundraisers – Depending on the type of school fee that you need help paying for, you may be able to hold a fundraiser to help get it paid for. This is especially helpful for when kids take school field trips. The field trips can cost $100 or more, and most people don’t want their child to be the only one who cannot attend. By holding a fundraiser you can raise the money needed to pay for the field trip. Possible fundraisers include teaming up with a local restaurant for a spirit night, selling baked goods, washing cars, holding a garage sale, etc.

Charities – There are plenty of charitable groups around the country that will help with things like obtaining school supplies and helping a single mom pay for school fees. These include organizations like Catholic Charities, Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul, etc. By contacting these organizations and letting them know you are a single mom who needs help paying for your child’s school fees you may get the help you need. They all have programs in place to help people in the community. They can also provide you with referrals to places that can help with such tasks.

When it comes to paying for school fees for your children, there are some you may be able to get waived. Those bills will not have to be paid at all. There are some you may be able to get help with paying from a community group, or the school counselor. These could include things like field trips.

It’s important to ask yourself which school fees are important, so when the ones that can’t be waived are still there you can decide what to do next. Kids don’t have to go on the field trips, because the costs can be high, but you may not want them to miss out on that experience either. Be sure to weigh the options and see what you could do. If your child is old enough they can even get in on the action of helping to raise the funds for things like their school field trips.
