Moving Assistance for Single Mothers

Single mothers often have more financial challenges than others do. They often take on the expenses of everything and get little to no financial support from the fathers. This leaves them needing financial assistance from wherever they can get it. If a single mother wants to move she is going to incur some expenses, making it important to know where to get help. There are some things that can be done to get moving assistance for single mothers.

Not all of the moving assistance that single mothers may need is going to be financial. Some of the help that you will need in moving is being able to have someone who can help with all the loading and unloading of items. This can be a heavy and tiring task that takes some muscle. Having a few guys around to help with the process is going to make it much more manageable.

If you need help with getting physical moving assistance, start by putting it out there on social media. Let people know that you need help with moving and ask if anyone would be willing to volunteer their time to help out. You may be surprised at how many people are actually willing to help. Many people will not hesitate to help you with the move. Additionally, there are teens all around the country who need to earn community service hours to meet school requirements. Round up a few teen boys to help you with the move and they can earn community service hours while they do it.

Ideas for Moving Assistance for Single Mothers

You may be able to find a local charity that will help with covering moving expenses, but there are not widespread programs that help with that type of thing. There are some things you can do, however, to try and make moving a little more financially doable. Below are some ideas for coming up with moving assistance for single mothers. These ideas will help to keep the expenses to a minimum and ensure that you can still make the move.

  • Have a garage sale and sell items that you no longer need. Once you start packing to move you will see how much stuff you no longer want to keep. This is a good time to sell it in a garage sale or online, so that you raise money to help with the moving expenses and it is less to have to move.
  • Make some things that you can sell in order to raise money to over the moving costs. Consider what you are good at making and then go forward with doing that. By making a product and selling it you will be able to come up with more money to cover the cost of moving.
  • If you are not interested in making something, consider a service you can offer to raise some funds for moving. There are some simple things that people need that they are willing to pay cash for, including weed pulling, house cleaning, car washing, dog walking, babysitting, etc. Doing these things for a week or two could give you all the money you need to cover the cost of moving.
  • To help keep costs down, don’t spend money on things like moving boxes. Instead, stop by your local grocery stores and ask them if you can get some free boxes. Grocery stores always have free boxes that customers can take. You may just need to give them a call in the morning and ask them to set some aside and then stop up there later in the day to grab them. Instead of purchasing packing materials, opt for using newspapers and other items you have received from deliveries.
  • To save money on renting a moving truck, ask around to see if any friends have a truck that you could use or that they would be willing to help with. This can save a lot of money and may not be a big inconvenience if it is a move that is not far away.
  • If you will be getting a moving company to help be sure to get several quotes from different companies. The fees can range quite a bit, and you want to be able to go with the one that is offering the best price and that still has a good reputation. Ask moving companies if they offer any special discounts for single mothers. They may be willing to give you a lower rate or find ways to help you save money on the cost of the move.
  • Contact some charities in your area that are known for helping people with their needs. These include places like Catholic Charities, Salvation Army, Vincent de Paul, 211, and HUD (Housing and Urban Development) in your state. These charities all have programs in place to help people in need in the community where they are located. They will either have a program in place that can help you, or they may be able to give you a referral to a place that can.

Additional Ways to Get Moving Assistance

Beyond the list above, if you still need help with moving, you can look to local charities and churches. Many of them have programs that will help people in the community with the needs that they have. By reaching out to churches and non-profit organizations they may be able to provide moving assistance, or refer you to someone local who can help you with your plans.

Getting the help you need comes down to knowing what type of help it is that you need and where to look to find it. The help is available, but you have to know what it is that you need first. If you need physical help then you would look one place, but if you need financial help then you will look another place. The moving assistance for single mothers is available, but it takes being proactive to find it.
