Or maybe you know of an organization that helps your community that could use some monetary support. If so, then you may be interested in the Community Grant Program. It offers up to $5,000 in grant money to help these types of organizations. There are several different categories you can apply under, and this particular grant allows you to submit multiple applications per organization. About the Community Grant Program
The Community Grant Program is funded by The Walmart Foundation and is awarded in amounts ranging from $250 all the way up to $5,000. The 2018 grant cycle started on February 1st and it will continue through December 31, 2018. Organizations can submit applications at any time during the funding cycle but each application will only remain active for a period of 90 days. Further, each organization may only receive and/or submit 25 applications.
Eligibility Checklist
To qualify for this grant, your organization must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

- It is a church (or other faith-based organization) which helps the community through programs such as soup kitchens and food pantries.
- It is an educational facility such as a K-12 public or private school, community or junior college, charter school, state college, or private college.
- It is a recognized state, county, or city governmental agency
- It is a 501(c)(3) or (19) organization that is listed on the IRS master file and conducts activities within the U.S. (Excluding nationally sponsored organizations such as United Way, The American Cancer Society, The American Diabetes Association, The American Heart Association, and The Children’s Miracle Network)
Additionally, an organization’s program needs to have goals which help its community in one of the following areas:
- Education: Vocational training, afterschool enrichment, and tutoring for low income individuals and families
- Environmental sustainability: Programs that work to improves the environment in the U.S. (recycling initiatives, waste prevention, etc.)
- Hunger relief and healthy eating: Providing meals or snacks for low-income individuals
- Health and human services: Social services, shelters, medical screening, etc. for low-income individuals
- Quality of life: Improving access to life-enriching experiences such as the arts, recreation, or cultural activities
- Community and economic development: Improving local communities
- Diversity and inclusion: Helping to foster relationships between diverse groups in the U.S.
- Public safety: Supporting public safety programs in the U.S. (providing training, equipment, etc.)
If you meet these requirements, you will be a good candidate for this opportunity.
Selection Process
How are the winner selected? First, all the applications will be reviewed by management at the facility which will make funding recommendations by January 4, 2019. Then, facility managers will make the final decisions. Organizations will be notified via email. If approved, an organization will receive a grant check in the mail at the address listed on their application within four weeks. They should then contact their local facility to arrange for a formal recognition event.
Keep in mind that Walmart has the ultimate say on whether an organization gets the grant or not. It will review the organization’s reputation and activities to ensure it complies with its terms and conditions.
